The inspiration for our British and Italian restaurant is Dere Street, an ancient Roman road in Northern England that was built in the 1st Century AD. While much of the road today dots the English countryside as ruins along walking trails, a good portion of it is the footprint of the A1, the Great North Road linking England to Scotland.
In honor of this intersection of Roman and British culture and ingenuity, Dere Street Restaurant and Bar serves the best of both cuisines using only the freshest, local ingredients. We also source the finest, most authentic products produced in Italy and England including Italian coffee, English tea, Stilton, Cheddar, Cornish Yard, Gorgonzola and Talagio Cheeses, Italian wine and British beer.
While it’s easy to find a chef with expertise in Italian cooking, it’s the rare chef who can produce extraordinary modern gastro British fare. That’s why Dere Street owner David Cooper decided to bring over Iain Sampson, an award-winning chef from Great Britain who won the coveted Best Chef in Wales award in 2010.
The Dere Street menu features authentic British and Italian dishes such as Chicken, Leek and Pancetta pie, Potato Gnocchi, Braised Lamb and Linguini specials. However, a handful of menu items have fused the best of both worlds. For example, our bread pudding, which is a typical English dessert, is fused with Italian Panattone, creating a sublime mix of flavors and textures.
Dere Street’s menu will change with the seasons and feature several daily specials.
Some of the items on our menu such as savoury and sweet tarts, flat breads and many of our desserts can be purchased in the Dere Street Bakery, located directly behind our restaurant. Come enjoy a delicious meal cooked by one of Great Britain’s most renowned chefs and take home a taste of Dere Street.
