Afternoon Tea is offered between 2:00pm and 4:00pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
This quintessential British custom originated in early 19th century England. It is attributed to Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford, in an era when dinner was served as late as 9:00pm. In order to stave off hunger, the Duchess ordered tea, bread and cakes to her room each afternoon. Soon, the practice caught on and Afternoon Tea became an English custom.
At Dere Street Restaurant and Bar, Afternoon Tea may start with finger-sized sandwiches, followed by scones with preserves and clotted cream, then an assortment of cakes and, of course, the finest British tea.
